What does a bookkeeper do?
Take a look at what tasks bookkeepers do from daily to yearly for their clients:
What is Virtual Bookkeeping?
Virtual bookkeeping allows a bookkeeper to telecommute (i.e. in the cloud) instead of physically working at a client’s office. We could be in the same town or halfway across the world. Aside from the work location, there is not much difference between regular bookkeeping services and a virtual arrangement.
Virtual Bookkeeping keeps your books at your fingertips. See how QuickBooks Online keeps you informed on your mobile device with their mobile app! And don't worry! Being a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor allows me to give you the tools and training you need to keep you involved as much or as little as you want.

Differences Between a Virtual and Traditional Bookkeeper
A Virtual Bookkeeper does all the things a traditional bookkeeper does. There are two primary differences between them. First, a Virtual Bookkeeper works remotely. The other difference is that a Virtual Bookkeeper is trained to use specific software and processes to manage financial transactions. Traditional bookkeepers tend to work on site and use the company’s current systems.
The table below notes some key differences between a Virtual Bookkeeper and traditional independent bookkeeper:
Virtual Bookkeeper
Works offsite Does bookkeeping only Uses widely available accounting software Regularly trained in best practices Usually part of a bookkeeping firm, has backup available |
Traditional Bookkeeper
Works onsite May perform other tasks, such as tax preparation or office management May use proprietary systems May not have regular training Independent, has no backup |
Beneficial for You!
I Already Have an Accountant...Do I Need a bookkeeper, too?
- Virtual bookkeepers do not require office space or supplies, insurance, benefits or employment taxes -- a huge savings for you. I offer flexible availability and can work as little or as much as your business needs; this can be especially beneficial for small businesses that may not need a full-time on-site bookkeeper or whose financial services needs fluctuate.
I Already Have an Accountant...Do I Need a bookkeeper, too?
- You actually should utilize BOTH!
- An accountant will manage your taxes at year end and provide upper-level support for questions you may have related to tax laws, tax breaks, depreciation of assets, etc. They are extremely knowledgeable in these areas and will be a great resource also.
- A bookkeeper will manage the day-to-day transactions and ensure they are categorized accurately and efficiently. This is key to handing over a clean set of books to the accountant at tax time. You don't want to be scrambling at year end trying to figure out what happened way back in January! That's why you need a bookkeeper!
- Bottom Line: Your Accountant and Bookkeeper work TOGETHER to keep your business growing.
